Course

I am a pianist who is experienced not only in solo performance, but also in chamber music. I have a lot of experience throughout the years in accompanying people, whatever instrument they may play, but particularly singers. Aside from piano playing, I also sing myself, which is why I really like working singers, as I can learn a lot from them, and I can understand them. In addition, I also have been teaching people of all ages and levels since my conservatory years, and I have a unique view of piano teaching that I have developed during my years of experience.

"It is never too late to start learning!"

Revy offers piano lessons for all levels and ages in Utrecht and around at the students' own home. The lesson ranges between 30-60 minutes per time, once every 1 or 2 weeks. It is highly advised for children and beginners to have one lesson every week.

The main focus of the lessons are:

Postures and relaxation

Maintaining good posture on the piano is very important when playing. Good posture play a great role in sustaining your strength to be able to play for an extended time. Relaxation is an absolute necessity because if the arms are locked and rigid, it is highly impossible to be able to play smoothly in general.

Hearing training, sight singing, sight reading

Hearing and singing, although for some might be viewed completely unrelated to piano playing, are actually very important aspects that will help students greatly to be able to sight read. By memorizing the sound of the note (by regularly hearing and singing the note), students will eventually then be able to develop an understanding of the relation between what they see and how they should play it.

Understanding the sheet music

There is a lot more to a piece of music then meets the eye (or the ear). Sheet music is an ideal way for a composer to be able to convey their ideas of how his/her composition should be played. Therefore sheet music, more often than not, is a valuable source of interpretation often overlooked by players worldwide. Understanding musical terminology, phrases, and dynamics is crucial to piano playing.

Mechanical technique, such as touch and fingering

It goes without saying that even though musicality plays a major role in making music, it is very difficult to achieve student's thoughts and intentions without proper technique. Mechanical technique should also be properly shaped, for it is a very important asset in being able to reach student's musical goals.

Extending student's imagination, implementing it to the playing

Every piano player is unique in spite of the instrument shared worldwide. Every touch, thoughts, and imaginations differ from one player to the other, as no two players can have one interpretation of a piece of music. Student's imagination is essential to a unique interpretation, and being able to implement it to the playing will help the student to make a piece of music their own.

Besides her study in classical solo piano performance, Revy also learned during her school years about accompaniment and what it means to be an accompanist and a chamber musician. She has done various projects with different instruments, such as string instruments, wind and brass instruments, and voice in the form of duos, trios, and quintets. She has also performed pieces for quatre mains and 2 pianos, as well as being the 2nd piano for piano concerto. Revy has recently become more closely acquainted with the art of accompanying and working together with singers, since she has passion also for the instrument. Under the guidance of Abigail Richards and Marian Bolt, among others, she learns how to play different type of songs in different languages, which she then put into practice with a diverse group of singers, for rehearsing as well as performing purposes. Price for rehearsals (per 60 minutes): € 40
